Three different classes of reflective traffic sign film (3M or Orafol) are used in the manufacture of traffic signs. The class of the film depends on the location of the sign. Aluminium or galvanised steel sheet is used as the base material as needed. Generally, Class I reflective film is used for manufacturing traffic signs and signposts. Class II reflective film must be used on:
- Warning signs 111, 112, 121, 122, 131, 132, 137, 138, 171…176
- Priority sign 212
- Indication signs 543, 544
It is also recommended to use Class II reflective film on signs, the visibility of which is difficult for drivers due to visibility and local conditions. When designing text signs (signposts), the height of the uppercase letter, which depends on the location of the sign, is taken as the basis.
